Press Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. – DCNOW announces its endorsement of Sheila Bunn in the upcoming Ward 8 special election of July 15, 2025. DCNOW’s President Rose Brunache said, “DCNOW is pleased to endorse Sheila Bunn to the D.C. Council. This leader is integral to continuing to improve Washington, D.C. Her substantial Congressional and D.C. government experience will greatly help the nation’s capital.”
This special election is for the Ward 8 D.C. Council seat, which is vacant as a result of the D.C. Council’s expulsion of then-Ward 8 D.C. Councilmember Trayon White Sr. On February 4, 2025, the D.C. Council expelled a member (White) for the first time in its history. White was expelled on a 12-0 vote months after federal bribery-related charges. In August 2024, White was arrested for allegedly taking tens of thousands of bribes. Former D.C. Councilmember White currently is running for his old D.C. Council seat.
Unlike in regularly-scheduled D.C. elections, this special election does not have a primary election and then a general election. Thus, the winner of the July 15, 2025, will be elected the next D.C. Councilmember of Ward 8.
