Our Work

Abortion Provider Non-Discrimination Amendment Act

This bill will build on CM Grosso's abortion access protection bill that he introduced last session as well as prepare legal safeguards to be in place if the Supreme Court makes a significant change to Roe v. Wade.

The bill is being marked up now by legal experts and direct service providers with input from a coalition. A communications plan is being developed by the rest of the coalition including DC NOW.

Implement the Sexual Assault Victims’ Rights Amendment Act (SAVRAA) 2019

SAVRAA 2014 gave survivors the right to a confidential, community-based advocate for all survivors and sought to reform how MPD handled sexual assault cases.

SAVRAA 2019 expands the rights to an advocate and promotes a more survivor-centered approach. Want to get involved? Email president@dc-now.org to obtain more information and learn how you can help survivors in DC.

Call for the divestment of funds from MPD!

The Metropolitan Police Department continually uses their position to harass and brutalize communities of color in DC.

We are asking our DC NOW members to call for the reallocation of these funds to programs that actually keep the city safe such as violence prevention and public housing.

End Sex Trafficking

DC NOW supports  decriminalizing prostituted individuals and expunging criminal records for having engaged in the selling of sex. We advocate for increased protections for sex workers and more resources to help individuals exit prostitution while keeping pimping and sex-buying illegal.

Support Calvary Women's Services

Our services ensure women have access to the proper trauma-informed healthcare and educational support they need to take positive steps toward independence. These programs include transitional and permanent housing, personalized case management, life skills and education opportunities, job training, health and wellness services, on-site therapy and daily addiction recovery meetings.
