The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. DC NOW is the District of Columbia chapter of national NOW.President: Susan Mottet Susan joined DC NOW in 2010. She works for the Progressive States Network, advancing progressive health care, tax and budget policies in state legislatures. She did her undergraduate work at Sarah Lawrence College and received her Juris Doctorate from George Washington University Law School. Susan has worked for the Center for Policy Alternatives, Workplace Flexibility 2010, U.S. Congressman Brian Baird, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, the D.C. Council, and Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Susan envisions DC NOW as becoming a powerful advocate in local politics for the equality of women and girls. Vice President: Allison Stouffer Allison has been a DC NOW Chapter member since 2010 after moving to the Washington, DC area in 2009. She graduated as a Magna Cum Laude graduate and received a double Bachelor's of Arts in International Affairs and Women's Studies at the University of Georgia (UGA). While attending UGA and living in Athens, GA, Allison was a strong advocate for women's rights and economic and environmental justice. She led grassroots campaigns and mobilized campus workers on a variety of issues including a living wage and access to affordable childcare. She also conducted qualitative research on discrimination of women in the UGA campus workplace. Allison currently works as an executive assistant in a Minority Business Enterprise in Washington, DC. She is an active member in the Women's Information Network and a volunteer at Commongood City Farm in Washington, DC. Chapter Treasurer: Erin Radford Erin has been a DC NOW member since 2008 and has served previously as treasurer and Chapter Coordinator. She moved to DC in 2004 after completing her MA in International Studies and Diplomacy from the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London. She works in the Middle East and North Africa department of an international labor rights organization and is a proud member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) local 2 and the Industrial Workers of the World. Communications Director: Tenley Peterson Tenley joined DC NOW shortly after moving to D.C. in August 2010. International and domestic women's rights have been a long time passion for her and she has worked on women's issues in Singapore, London, and now D.C. She has a Master of Arts in Asian Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She currently does communications for a women's policy organization. Membership Development Director: Danielle Geong Danielle Geong spends most of her time thinking about ways to expand abortion access for women in DC. She is a secretary at the Department of Defense by day, and previously worked as a student health liaison with the Close Up Foundation and national campus organizer with the Feminist Majority Foundation. Danielle is a volunteer coordinator with DC Abortion Fund and the Washington Area Clinic Defense Task Force, and is a member of the Women’s Information Network. She graduated with university honors from American University with a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies. Interested in becoming a leader? DC NOW holds their annual meeting in April and elects a new board. To run for a position, you must be a chapter member for at least six months. To vote, you must be a chapter member for at least three months.
