The Capital City Pride Parade DC NOW, 51st State NOW WIN, and the Younger Women's Task Force: DC Metro Celebrated Equal Marriage and Diverse Families! DC NOW members and friends rallied in front of the Supreme Court and celebrated the pro-choice majority in Congress and the White House with Roebama January 22, 2009. On January 22, 2008, DC NOW celebrated the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court Case guaranteeing women the right to have an abortion. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) joined the festivities.
DC NOW marched with friends in the 3rd annual pride parade in the summer of 2008. | DC and 51stState NOWmembers and friends will rally outside the Hart Senate Office Building to show support for a swift confirmation to the Supreme Court of Judge Sonia Sotomayor,nominated to serve as the third woman and first Latina on the Supreme Court in the history of the United States. Terry O’Neill, President-Elect of the National Organization for Women, will attend the rally. Women demand that the Senators confirm her now! Judge Sotomayor’s 17 years of judicial experience, background and education make her an excellent addition to a court that needs a broader representation of life experience to inform its decisions. We believe that Judge Sotomayor will serve with distinction. She brings a lifelong commitment to equality, justice and equal opportunity. We stand strongly in support of Judge Sotomayor’s confirmation. She has the respect of her peers, unassailable integrity, and a keen intellect informed by extensive experience. DC NOW and 51st State NOW members and friends toured the historic Sewall Belmont House and Museum to learn more about the history of women's suffrage. DC NOW members and friends rallied at Dupont Circle to protest the California Supreme Court decision to uphold Prop 8. |
